May 28th Letter

How was everyone's memorial day!!!!!!!! Mine was awesome I hope everyone’s was also

Man this week was a hard week for me. I have been sick since Wednesday and I’m still not over it.

I’ll tell you more about it later but I want to tell you about happy things

We met with Sydney this week twice. The first time was on Wednesday and we brought a soon to be missionary with us. We taught her the Gospel of Jesus Christ and he did a good job. The spirit was so strong there with us. There seemed to be a topic we talked a lot about and that was the Promptings of the Holy Ghost. I shared my experience about breaking my arm. (all is good :) ) and it just helped me realize how blessed I am to be here and to have a reminder to follow the promptings of the spirit. Than the next meeting we talked about the Word of Wisdom. She is planning on giving up coffee and to live it. The funny thing is that I love going over there cause the family is so awesome. I love talking to them. We spent about hour and half talking about the best food places here in Texas, Utah, and Nevada. It was awesome and the even funnier part is they have two huge dogs and they love us and especially Elder Cornwall. He gets his shoes licked and slobber all over his pants and get jumped on by the dog. The dogs don’t really do that to me but Elder Cornwall gets it the most. It is so funny cause he is like " help" hahah

Had a meeting with Michael and we taught him more about Joseph Smith. He is having a problem knowing that he is a True Prophet because he loves to do research about him on the internet and that is the worst place to do that. Michael said that he is a false prophet because there is some prophecies that are un fulfilled and that makes him a false prophet. I was like really so I bore him my testimony and read Matt 7: 18-20 which says by the fruits ye shall know him and read D&C 135 which is John Taylor saying that Joseph Smith has done more save Jesus Christ Only. After I read him that he took my scriptures from my hand and read that again and you could hear a huge "Sigh" he finally told us he would read the Book of Mormon again. Finally that was our goal to get him to do that so good progression is being made there

Other than that everything was good this week. Elder Cornwall and I are doing well and so is everyone else. It is becoming hotter Consistent 90 degrees daytime and 75 degrees at night so its warming up and so am I, which sucks but it’s all good I need to lose the weight. haha

SICKNESS

It all started on Wednesday when I wasn’t feeling to well I was really cold which was really weird cause it is 90 degrees outside. I knew something was wrong I figured nothing about it so I went on. Then that night I was so cold and my body was aching and I had a huge headache so I went to be took some drugs and woke up still feeling that way. I had a huge headache and 100 degree fever for 2 days. Than all of the sudden my throat was killing me it’s like someone scratch the back of my throat it was so bad that I couldn’t even swallow on Saturday night. I was having such a hard time and I was like I have never had this happen before. I was still having a fever and headache and Sunday I got both of my ears clog up. So at this point I have a headache, fever, sore throat, ears plugged and hacking up a storm. I am like what else do I get. I have never been so sick in my life. I have been taking so many drugs and trying to get myself better. Last night was the worst of it all. I was so miserable and Elder Cornwall could see it in my face I couldn’t stop coughing, blowing my nose etc. So before I went to bed I just prayed to my father in heaven and said please give me the strength to do your will. I can honestly say whenever I was in the apartment I felt like crap but when I was out and about working hard I was a little better. I knew it was God blessing me and making me feel better to do his will.

I have a testimony of prayer and about Jesus Christ. I have been on my knees a lot this week and I know he answers prayers he watches over us and gives us things we can handle. I also know the importance of enduring to the end and pushing through. I have learned that being a Christensen we go out and GIT R DUN!!!!! There are no short cuts and no half way getting important things done

I love yall I hope everything is going well and i will talk to yall soon

Holy Texas !!!!

It is so humid out here now!!!!!!!!!!!! You have no idea. So you know how in the winter how you get fog and you see that. Yeah well this week it was like that but super-hot and humid it was ridiculous!!! Feel bad for me yet hahah ok never mind then.

THIS WEEK WAS AWESOME!!!! We set 2 baptismal dates this week for the same date!!! The 22nd of JUNE!!!!!!!!!!!! So that is a miracle week for us lately!!!!!

Michael LeBlanc.

This is the former Marine who has been taught for about a year now. It has been a long process and I think it will continue to be a long process. He has a lot of questions and it’s sad because he never had these concerns before and until certain things happen. But we met with him on Tuesday and we sat down and talk with him. While we were talking he was talking about setting goals in his life were hard for him and kind of explain why. So the first thing I thought of was we need to give him a goal for baptism and see how he does. So we gave him the date of the 22nd of June and he was kind of hesitant. I ask him what was wrong and he has a lot of doubts and questions. One of the questions he had was this “why do you need to join a church to be baptized" So I told him that we will do some studying on it and we will come back to him on Friday and answer it for him. Friday came and we went over to his house and we first did some service for his friend. We went over to his house and did the lawn and clean up the yard. I felt so at home when I did it. I was mowing, edging, cleaning up it was awesome. I did all of it cause my companion has never used a mower and a weed whacker before, so I was like alright so I did it they only thing missing was a cold Mtn Dew at the end and my music. (Oh by the way I had my first mtn dew for the first time in 3 months and it was weird haha ) After we did some service we went over to Michael's house and taught him. After doing some studying there was something that stood out to me that I needed to mention to him and it was that there is a difference between being baptized into a church and being baptized into a religion. A church is just a place to we meet to worship and mingle. A religion is a way of life. It’s the kind of life that we promise god that we will live. Just like the life Christ lived. He understood that and it overcame his concern. And now he has a concern with prophets and Joseph Smith and he has had this concern for a while. And I promised that we will overcome it next week. SO hopefully all work out. He mentioned to me that we were persistent about him joining and I said OH YES WE ARE.

Sydney Goddard.

Sydney is the one that I was talking about the other day. She is going to be the soon to be daughter in law to the Ripley (believe it or not :) haha ) family. She is so excited about coming to church and being baptized, she wants us to come over every time she has the day off to come teach her so that is what we are doing. She is keeping us busy which is good. But this week we were going to talk about prophets and the restoration more and we had a plan to give her a baptism date of the 22nd of JUNE. The plan was to have Elder Cornwall give the baptismal commitment and you can tell that he was nervous and going through the lesson I was waiting for him to give it at any moment. We were done and I was nervous that he had forgotten so I kept nudging him and was like ask her ask her. So he was talking and right before he was about to give the commitment the dog somehow some way open up the glass window sliding door It was so weird. So we were trying to get the dog outside and to lock to door. Well after about 10 mins we sat down and we were talking and they were like so what was the question you were going to ask me. He said will you follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized and she said YES!!!! She accepted the 22nd of June for her baptismal date. A week after she gets married and she invited us to her wedding. It was awesome and super awesome experience. Sydney is excited about it that she even posted that she was getting baptized on Facebook and she had a lot of friends be like don’t do it and she was like well how bout you talk to these men and they will answer your questions. haha it was awesome she is going to post mormon.org on and see what happens haha.

As you can tell this week was a MIRACLE week but there is something that stood out to me and that was when I was studying for Michael about how a religion is a life style and most people don’t understand that. In April 2012 Elder Hallstrom gave a talk about the difference between converting to the gospel and the church. Most people just convert to the church they come each week and go to activities and just come but it’s different when we are converted to the gospel. It’s a life style people will notice a difference when you convert your life to the gospel and I have noticed that in my life also. I know that I am converting myself to the gospel. I want to live my life as close as I can to Christ’s life he is my Savior and Redeemer he is my Mediator and I love him for that. I can’t think of a thing I wouldn’t give to be with him or live a life like his and that is my testimony.

I love yall and thank you so much for all that you do, Be safe this week and remember who you are and what you represent.

Love

Mother's Day!!

Sorry this is so late. Kendall was able to call home on Mother's Day on Sunday. Like at Christmas, he was able to Skype with us. Unfortunately, the Skype on our computer wasn't working. We could hear each other and see Kendall but he couldn't see us. Good thing for plan B. We were able to communicate with him through video or Face Time on Camille's iphone. We all managed to not cry until we said goodbye. Quite the accomplishment!!! Now we have 1 more phone call til he comes home. Oh and also, last week Kendall hit is 15 month mark on Wednesday so 9 more months!!!!

I asked him to smile and this is what he gave me. Hasn't changed!

HOWDY!!!!

How are things going in place that is still melting from the winter???? hahah

Man this week was awesome here are some highlights of this week.. GIT ER DUN.

Alright this week was awesome on Thursday we had planned an appointment with Shawn Beard. He text us Wednesday night and was like hey are we still planning on going to the temple and walking the grounds, I was like oh crap I forgot that we talked about that two weeks ago so I hurried and made arrangements to go to the temple grounds with him. Thursday night Shawn Beard, us, and Bro Pennington went to the temple and walked the grounds It was awesome. He just wanted to run through the door and get to work on the things he needs to do for his ancestors Shawn really enjoyed going to the temple and walked the grounds. We talked to him about patriarchal blessings and he wants to get his own, man I have never seen a member so golden. He even blessed the sacrament this week a week after he got the priesthood!!!!!!!!!! Holy cow it is awesome. I saw him on the stand and he just look so happy and he just smiled at me he was excited. :)

Friday was a pretty busy day for us. We started with a zone meeting. It’s funny so you know my last comp Elder Gutierrez! He is my zone leader!!!!!!

He did a really good job teaching us, we learned about faith and how to overcome it and doubt. After we went to lunch at a place called Culver's it’s like an Article Circle. But when I was there I noticed this woman kept looking at me. I don’t know if it was because I’m good looking or that she was wondering what we were doing. So she came up and talks with me and we were talking and found out she was baptized when she was 9 and she hasn’t been since and her boyfriend was a Mormon. She was telling me about him and I just told her that she just needs to read and pray and attend church. She said that she still has her triple combo and she said that she will read it. I gave her the number for the missionaries in her area and the address to the church house. Then I continued to eat and I noticed that she still was looking at me. Okay this is kind of weird, she came up and asks what my name was and I was like my name is Elder Christensen. She said oh thank you I was like no problem. Than while we were leaving she comes up to me again and was like will yall be here next week? I said I don’t know why? She said that if we come by next week around this time (1 pm) that she will sit down and here some lessons from us. Unfortunately she doesn’t live in our area but I got the missionaries going to go over there. We went to a potential investigator house and they were finally home!!! Their name are Henry and Kristi. Kristi was home and she talked to us for a while Really Nice family. They love us they had some exposure to the church before they met us. She is looking for a church that is family based and I was just thinking well that is us!!! She said that she would come to church but she never did we are going to meet up with her again soon.

Awkward Moment.

So we were coming home from a long day on Saturday night and we were at the light and we noticed this truck was just reeving his engine and just acting stupid and then all of the sudden we hear “DEVIL WORSHIPPERS!!!! ******* MORMONS!!!!" I was like oh crap here we go again I just pulled up and drove off and tried to get away from them than all of the sudden I noticed here he comes following us then he pulls up right by us and was flipping us off and telling us that we were "number one” I didn’t look at them but in the corner in my eye I noticed that he was mooning us and just being disrespectful to us. Elder Cornwall was like what just happen I was like WELCOME TO TEXAS!!! He said oh wow does that happen often and I said YUP gotta love it.

I can’t wait to talk with yall on Sunday I am so excited. I am going to try to not cry but I know that it might happen I can’t wait to see all yall and talk with you. I am going to be calling around 600-630 Texas time so that would be 500-530. Utah time. I know that my comp wants to talk a while to his family so it’s going to be around that time. Just be patient and don’t worry i will call. just be ready!

I love yall have a safe week.

Apr 29th Letter

Good Morning Yall!!!!

Today is an awesome day. I am so excited to write you and tell you all about the week. and how i am a FATHER ( in missionary terms/slang)

So as yall have heard my companion Elder Kuila got transfered to a new area with another Poly companion. I know that he will do awesome and he is alot more happier. I got to talk to President Pingree Monday and he asked me to train. I was like well if that is what you want me to do i will obey. kinda like 1nephi 3:7 haha.

On thursday 40 New missionaries came in and our mission is huge!!!! i dont know anyone any more haha but its all good. But i got my son. ( my greenie) his Name is Elder Cornwall. He is from Palmdale California. It is about 2 hours away from LA. He is the middle child of five he has an older brother and sister. He brother came home from Indiana on his mission last year. Elder Cornwall went to BYU Idaho for a semster and came out on a mission. He is super excited to be out. Except the first day. he was totally nervous. It made me feel bad. and it brought back alot of memories. Oh yeah He loves SPIDERMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the color RED. he has red luggage, red sheets, towels everything. so that is something we have in common. He wanted to go to Africa really bad for his mission. So while we walk around he sees alot of trees and birds so he is saying that he is serving in Africa not Texas. haha

Thursday was awesome got him back to the apt and got him unpacked. found out that he loves red and spiderman. And he is really organized and a lil OCD. sigh! :/ but that is okay we will have a really clean apartment which i wont complain about. But we got to planning and told him about the area a lil and got him out. We went to an area called Fox Run and we were walking and we walked down this one street and we got stopped by some girls who wanted to talk to us. They said that there parents are looking for a church. We found out a time that there parents would be home and drive by. Elder Cornwall was happy and said that was easy this is going to be fun. i was laughing and was like that hasnt happen in a long time and its a little harder than that. but his first dinner was a breakfast dinner. And he was able to meet Shawn Beard. So his first day was awesome.

Friday. Man right when the alarm went off at 6:30 he was out of the bed made it and was like " now what do we do" i was getting out of my bed and thinking in my head well im going to use the bathroom. but i was like work out time. so he did and he was just wired up still. got to do his full day of studies and we went to district meeting. Had a good district. Im the oldest one in the district. Everyone one else has been out 8 months or less. two new missionaries and two missionaries that have been out 6 weeks and 4 months.. So its young district and we have alot of things going for us. After district meeting we went to a BBQ resturant and had some true texan BBQ. it was amazing. loved it. Than we went and visited the bishop. Got Elder Cornwall to visit him and a lot of members. So we can get the members to know we have a new missionary out. The ward is very warming of Elder Cornwall. Elder Cornwall wanted to go visit his first contact multiple time. The one who was looking for a church. but they werent home. He was like "oh man" i was its okay man we will get them tomorrow.

Saturday it was raining. This whole week we have been walking cause we used alot of miles because of transfers so i broke him into that. We didnt have anything planned for saturday but i was like well lets take him tracting. So we went into an area expecting to tract but a less active found us so we went to his house. I was a lil nervous taking this poor Innocent new missionary to this rough member. But it turned out alot better than i expected. After we talked with him we went to another area and it was the same area that he got his first contact and said lets go visit them. i said we are seeing them tonight its alright. he said alright so we went to a members house and he connected with them very well. it was cool. We went to another area to introduce him to member, but that member wasnt home so we went to another house down the street and they came out and said that they have a referal for us. He was so happy and had that fire in him again. it was awesome. he said that this is so cool and i love it. I was like what the heck we havent had this good of a week in months. He hasnt had a bad week yet so im waiting to see how he will do. So we visited his first contact that night and we got rejected hard core. It was funny it made him sad. I was like poor guy. I knocked the door and i told him that your daughter stopped us and was telling us that yall have been looking for a church. he said my daughter? i said yes sir he was like well either you are lying through your teeth or you have the wrong house. I am postive we didnt have the wrong house but he shut the door and we walked off. So he got his first rejection.

Sunday Shawn Beard Got the Aaronic Priesthood. He was excited and we were part of the circle ordaining him. Awesome moment. couldnt ask for anything better. Sunday was just an all around good day. Elder Cornwall got comfortable with the ward and being in the area. he is starting to get less and less nervous each day. So Elder Cornwall had an awesome spiritual experience. We had a lesson with michael LeBlanc and it went alright and we got into the car after it was done and he was like man i really wanted to promise him something i was like " why didnt you"!! he was like well i dont know so we went back and he was like " i promise you that if you come to church that you wont have any pain" than all of the sudden Elder Cornwall started to cry. he was shocked and i was like if the spirit prompts you to do something do it! it was one of those promptings that was like why did i promise him that. but it was a good experience to always do what the spirit prompts you to do. Now he was a lil nervous cause he hopes he will come to church. I just simply told him. If you dont have faith he wont have faith in your promise. He was like wow who told you that. i said no one did i just made it up. he was like that was deep. haha

I know that being a trainer is going to be hard cause me and him are complete opposite but we are going to work hard and i am forgetting about myself and putting him first. I know that i am going to be good cause i know that i will have some kind of impact on his life. and im excited to teach him the ropes of being a missionary.

I love yall and it has been nice writing to yall
